Professor emerita Anita Kangas, PhD, was the Chairperson of the Board of the Foundation for Cultural Policy Research in 2002-2016.

Anita Kangas directed the Unit for Cultural Policy/Politics at the Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy in the University of Jyväskylä from 1996 until 2015. Previously, she was a Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor at the Department of Social and Public Policy.

Professor Kangas directed the Interdisciplinary Programme of Cultural Management in 1991-2000 (together with the Department of Art Education and Business School)  and the interdisciplinary M.A. Degree Programme of Cultural Policy from 2000 (in Finnish) and from 2012 (in English and Finnish). She chaired the national PhD School for Cultural Policy (SOVAKO/Multidisciplinary Graduate School for Cultural Policy: Organizing Creativity) in 2008-2015. She is a docent in the University of Eastern Finland.

Anita Kangas has been twice a dean and a vice dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, a chair of the Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy, a member of the Agora Center board and of various boards and committees at the University of Jyväskylä.

Her research interests consist of three major areas: the politics of cultural participation and cultural democracy; local cultural institutions, questions of governance, and the role of arts and culture in sustainable development; and histories of cultural policy and theoretical issues such as (new) institutionalism and action research methodology.
